Now that it’s been a month, I figured it would be safe to post my initial thoughts and reactions to Infinity War!

Let’s just say the hype was real for this movie. I wouldn’t call myself a Marvel mega-fan, but I am a big fan! I was introduced to the superhero genre back in 2011 when the first Captain America movie came out. My friend and I had nothing better to do, so we decided to go see it and were blown away. I immediately fell in love with Cap, and the love for Marvel began. Throughout the rest of the years, I watched most of the movies that came out, especially if Captain America was involved!
So when the trailer for Infinity War came out, I about fell out of my chair. What was going to happen, who was going to die? Is this the end of an era? Speculations began! As the day grew closer and closer, I got even more scared. And then- opening night.
Within the first five minutes, I was already in shock. Loki? Dead? While I never was on Team Loki, I still had a soft spot for this baddie! And then, while still reeling from that death, we got another with Gamora. Now that one left me numb. The Guardians are some of my favorite Marvel characters after Captain America, and watching her death tore me up.
And just when you think it all might be okay because the plan on Titan seems to be working, Peter Quill does what any normal person would do- and loses his cool. I felt his heartbreak, his pain. I don’t blame him AT ALL for what he did! It was a totally human response (and he is 50% human!). But seeing the plan fall apart was awful.
And then we arrive at the most heartbreaking 30 minutes of my life. (Okay, maybe not really my life- but it was pretty awful at the time.) Wanda faces her fears and destroys Vision’s stone, only to be brought back with the Time stone. Thanos snaps his fingers. Bucky. T’Challa. Groot. Dr. Strange. Starlord. Mantis. Drax.

I officially lost it. The waterworks started. I don’t usually cry in movies (unless it’s a kids’ cartoon- for some reason those get me every time). But watching little Peter die in Tony’s arms was about the worst thing I imagined I would ever have to see. I was mentally prepared for Iron Man to die. I was even bracing myself for Cap’s death. But Peter Parker? The friendly neighborhood Spider-Man?
I sat in disbelief with tears dripping down my face as we watched Thanos sit down to watch the sunrise. Surely this wasn’t how it was ending. And the credits rolled.
As I sat there through the credits, the film score haunted me. It wasn’t the upbeat, epic music that normally plays after a Marvel movie. No, instead it ripped what was left of my heart into tiny pieces and blew away in the wind (too soon?). Everyone in the theater was just in shock. Would the post-credits scene make it better?
Negative. I did smile a little seeing Nick Fury again. But I walked out of the theater in complete shock. I had so many questions, and theories were already forming in my head.
I’ve seen the movie a total of 3 times, and I feel like I’m sort of coming to terms with what happened. What I haven’t come to terms with yet is the fact we have to wait a whole year for part 2.

Now for my thoughts. The non-stop action was great. I’m the kind of person who can get bored watching/listening to politics too much in a movie. I loved that there wasn’t anything too deep in this one. I also loved how we got to see so much of all of the heroes we know and love. I think the directors did an awesome job balancing all of the characters and weaving their story lines together. I wish we could have seen a little more of Captain America/Bucky, but that could still come.
This definitely wasn’t a movie for the casual Marvel fan. If you haven’t seen all (or at least the key movies- Avengers 1-2, Winter Soldier, Civil War, Ragnarok, etc.) you would be confused. It also wasn’t a feel-good, watch-while-you’re-cooking-dinner sort of movie. But for those who have been following the MCU, this movie was the culmination (or partial culmination) of the past 10 years.
