Decorating a home is such a personal experience, and it is almost like a work of art in itself! A person’s home says a lot about them- their likes, their dislikes, their family structure, their tastes, etc. One of the biggest trends in home décor right now is the boho look!
That’s where Rope & Rose comes in! I was in awe with how beautiful her pieces were. They give off that cozy boho vibe that works in so many different décor trends! And one of my favorite things about this company is that it’s not just “another” business, but Brittney is a real human who has passions (for her family, macramé, and fandoms!).

And who better to tell you about their amazing business than the lady who runs it?!
Me: Hey girl! Thanks so much for joining us! I’m really excited to hear all about your business, and what makes it tick! Why don’t you tell us a little bit about yourself first?
Brittney: Well, currently I’m a Stay At Home mom to a crazy little 2 year old girl, and I make modern macramé as a side hustle. If you want my resume summary, I have a background in Graphic Design and Visual Communications and I used to work as a Wedding Venue Coordinator before I got pregnant. I used to be a Starbucks Barista and the word “Frappuccino happy hour” still makes me cringe. I consider myself a foodie and plan all my trips around places to eat. I enjoy long strolls through Target and my next small goal in life is to buy a summer jumpsuit.
Me: I can totally relate with Target! You mentioned that your side hustle is modern macramé. What made you decide to start doing that?
Brittney: My little sister is getting married this July, and she lives in Hawaii so she’s really into everything boho. She sent me a picture of a macramé wedding backdrop and was like “Hey, make this for me” and I was like “uh…. ok?”. And after hours of learning the basic knots of macramé I finally made my first macramé creation! It was a little chair back décor thing… I’m pretty sure I didn’t even keep it, but I remember being so proud of it and thinking it was so beautiful. Soon I got ADDICTED and made so many wall hangings that I filled my dining room and my husband said “Ok, we gotta get rid of these because we’re moving soon”. So I decided to try to sell them on Instagram to my friends. Soon people started asking me to do special orders and before I knew it, I had my own little business.
Me: I love that! It really seems like you have a true passion for what you do! What is your favorite part of having this business now?
Brittney: I really love it when I finish a piece I can stand back and look at it, and it gives me this feeling of peace and accomplishment that I’ve never experienced. It’s this indescribable feeling of “Oh my goodness, this is beautiful and even if no one in the world agrees with me, it’s still beautiful”. And as a creative, that feeling is priceless. It’s the driving force of an artist. Have you ever experienced that? A confidence so strong that its not dependent on the thoughts of others? If you never have, you need to… at least once in your life. It’s so freeing.
Me: This just gives me the warm fuzzies! I’ve experienced that to some extent, and you’re right- it really is so freeing! It seems like this is just the baby stage right now. Where do you hope this business takes you in the future?
Brittney: I would DIE if I could work with flowers more. I want to start doing events where I style parties or events. Or expand the “Rose” part of Rope & Rose and have a flower crown booth. Maybe to even be featured in weddings?!?! OMG I need to stop, I’m getting excited just thinking about it. lol! Or I would love to open a coffee shop/ art studio/ floral studio where I teach art classes and make coffee. Sorry, I dream pretty big. Haha!
Me: Hey! Big dreams are what make the world go round! I love these big dreams you have! Now, since we’re a geeky blog, we all are dying to know- what’s your favorite fandom right now?
Brittney: Currently? My last obsession was the ACOTAR series by Sarah J Mass. I’m a sucker for fairytale retellings. She did such an amazing job at world-building and character development. I actually decided to read her books because of the fan art on Pinterest and DeviantArt! Her characters are beautiful and have so much depth. And they’re very relatable. My sister and I could spend hours discussing the books and sending memes to each other. And the ACOTAR memes are so freaking funny! I seriously laugh so hard I cry sometimes… Don’t tell anyone. lol 😉 When I was younger (and had more free time) I was into manga and anime. You know those people who sat on the floor at Barnes & Noble and read manga? That was me. So my recent Anime obsession is Food Wars… if you don’t watch anime regularly I’m not sure if I recommend it for you, to be completely honest. It can be vulgar at times, but in Japan it’s a type of humor and it doesn’t bother me. It’s a special kind of humor and it’s ridiculous and hilarious at the same time. My husband and sister think I’m insane but I like it!
Me: Love it! That definitely makes life so much more fun! My family thinks I’m crazy the same way, so I feel you! You’re definitely a fangirl, so how do you incorporate that love into your business?
Brittney: I named a couple of my wall hangings after the terms and characters in some of my fave fandoms. Like I named a piece “The Eye” once because it looked like the Eye of Saur on from LOTR… and I recently named a piece Darth because I used black rope. Yes, like Darth Vader. Hahaha! It’s me exploring my dark side. My next book-inspired piece is a piece inspired by Rhysand or Feyre of ACOMAF. I want it to be a dark midnight blue or black and to look like wings! I just need to find the perfect blue.

Me: I’ve been eyeing that Darth hanging! It’s so fun- and gorgeous! You didn’t mention it, but I know you’re a Potterhead! So, we need to know all your stats!
Brittney: Hufflepuff Hogwarts house (Team Cedric FOREVER). Pukwudgie Ilvermorny house. Dolphin patronus. Wand made of Alder wood with a Phoenix feather core 12 ½” and slightly springy flexibility. And I prefer my butterbeer frozen.
Me: Puff Pride! Yah! Well, one last thing before you go. What would you tell people who want to start their own business?
Brittney: People don’t buy products. The buy brands… they buy dreams, goals, ideas, and the lifestyle you’re selling. It doesn’t make sense to a lot of people, but it’s true. As an example, I sell macramé home décor. But people don’t just buy a macramé wall hanging, they’re buying the boho vibes they get when they walk into their room and see my wall hanging. They buy the feeling of comfort that comes from a room filled with things they love. They buy the idea that having this in their home will transform into something they can call THEIRS. I could talk for days about it, but in a nutshell, your products and business will send a message to people. Make sure whatever that message is, that it’s something you’re proud of and that you can stand by it even if no one else is standing by you.
